In the spring of 2007 Horatio Law approached Mudshark studios to design and produce a series of ceramic bowls for a permanent installation. Law’s concept was to have a three story tall hanging column made up of 200 ceramic bowls.
In order to create the look Law was going for, the inside surface needed to be glazed bright gold, and each bowl would need to be exactly the same height and diameter. The pictures below document the step by step process involved in the creation of the 200 ceramic bowls.
In the fall of 2010 Horatio Law approached Mudshark Studios to help in the creation of another installation titled, “The Second Grade” located at the Creekside Wood Senior Apartments in Wilsonville, Oregon.
The idea was to take found plates and cups from thrift stores and re-fired them with a blue underglaze and then gold decals and mounted them to an angled wall. Mudshark studios glazed and decaled the 150 plates and cups as well as designed the custom mounting brackets needed so that each plate and cup could be removed with a specialized tool.
